Clara for the Nutcracker

It has been a while since I have made a costume.

I was told by my dil that she referred someone to me for a rush job on a costume. The next day I got a call from a lady that needed a costume made for her daughter who was playing Clara in The Nutcracker ballet for her dance studio. She continued to say that she needed within 5 days for the photo shoot. Up for the challenge I went to Joann's and picked up the fabric and trims needed to get this accomplished.

So, the race is on. I was given the girls measurements and picture of costumes in the past for reference. Made the costume and the first fitting went well.

Made all the changes for the dress and then was told she needed pantaloons and petticoat for the costume as well. Off to Joann's to get the fabric for the petticoat and pantaloons along with trim for them.

Ribbons, lace, ruffles, and satin everywhere, thinking the whole time that I need to take my sewing machine in for a tune-up. Final fitting still showed it needed to be taken in at the shoulders and time is running out on us.

I took the shoulders up and steamed the dress for them to pick it up the night before the photo shoot. Finally all is ok till I got a text message saying the dress had water marks all over it. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! My iron had leaked onto the satin causing marks on the satin. They were able to do the photo shoot and brought the dress back to me to take up the shoulders some more and take the water marks out.

All in all the dress looks absolutely adorable on the girl.
Below is a shot from the photo shoot. Isn't she adorable.
